The most common way to find a doctor that specializes in your type of cancer is to get a referral from your primary care physician. Your primary care doctor knows you and your medical history and should be able to refer you to a healthcare professional who can best meet your needs. Cancer can be hereditary. If someone in your family has had cancer they also may be able to refer you to a doctor. Referrals from people who have been through cancer may be the most comforting as you see them recover, satisfied with their treatment process. Chances are your doctor practices at one of one medical centers and will refer you to the one that best meets your needs. Insurance will also play a role. You may need to weigh your options based on facilities that your insurance plan will cover. Your insurance agency can provide a list of insured treatment facilities upon request.
