2011 Kicks for a Cure Raises $181,000 |
|
Omaha, Neb. - The sixth annual Kicks for a Cure soccer exhibition, a benefit for the Liz's Legacy Cancer Fund, was held April 15 and 16, 2011, and raised more than $181,000 - a record amount for the annual event.
Proceeds benefit Liz’s Legacy, the fund created by the Karnes family in memory of the late Dr. Liz Karnes, and are directed toward research projects at both the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center and the Hereditary Cancer Center at Creighton University that target cancers affecting women. Creighton hosted the 2011 banquet at the Mutual of Omaha Dome. The event was attended by approximately 500 people who enjoyed a unique experience where attendees interacted with participating players in a family-oriented environment. The evening included the presentation of the Liz Karnes Memorial Scholarship Award. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of this year’s check for $181,000 by presenting partner First National Bank. It was also announced that 2011 proceeds brought the six-year total of the event to $918,000. The 2012 Kicks for a Cure exhibition will be held April 20 and 21.
