Every day is a chance to make life a little bit better.
LollapaLUDA raises $1,400 for Liz's Legacy in 2011

Lincoln, Neb. - For four years, the Lincoln Ultimate Disc Association (LUDA) has hosted seasonal ultimate frisbee leagues and LollapaLUDA, a one-day ultimate tournament held in October. Originally, LollapaLUDA was intended to be a free tournament with no real purpose other than getting a bunch of people together to play ultimate for an afternoon. However, in 2010, the aim of the tournament became that of charity.

In 2009, a LUDA player by the name of Holly was diagnosed with breast cancer, and like 85% of all breast cancer patients, she had no family history of the disease. Over the previous several seasons Holly had played LUDA league, she developed many strong bonds within the Lincoln ultimate community, and the LUDA commissioners wanted to do something to support their fellow player and friend. After meeting with Holly to discuss LUDA’s support of her battle, it was decided that from 2010 onward, LollapaLUDA would be a breast cancer benefit for the beneficiary of Holly’s choice, Liz’s Legacy.

The 2010 LollapaLUDA raised $1,337 for Liz's Legacy. In 2011, LollapaLUDA brought together about 80 ultimate players from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri, and raised $1,400. The event took place on Saturday, October 22nd. For more information, visit http://www.lincolnultimate.com/lollapaluda.html.

Since her diagnosis, Holly has undergone chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Fortunately, she has had a complete pathological response, and as of 2011, she is cancer free. We know not all those diagnosed with breast cancer will be as lucky as Holly, which is why LUDA will continue hosting the annual event in support of breast cancer research and awareness.
